Last week, the UN General Assembly met on the east side of mid-Manhattan, and they made multiple announcements about avoiding gridlock. During that week, I also learned something new. Back in 1986, the United Nations made a Declaration on the Right to Development. It states:
“The right to development is an inalienable human right by virtue of which every human person and all peoples are entitled to participate in, contribute to, and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development, in which all human rights and fundamental freedoms can be fully realized” (https://www.un.org/en/events/righttodevelopment/pdf/rtd_at_a_glance.pdf).
Forty years have passed since the United Nations made that Declaration on the Right to Development. With AI going mainstream in the mid-2020s, we may need to put the spotlight back on human development. That links to why this upcoming October course—Human Development: An Alt-AI Approach—is timely.

October Course—Human Development: An Alt-AI Approach
Description—This course is not about Artificial Intelligence. The curriculum acknowledges that AI is a big force today, yet aims to steer away from it and promote human strengths. How might humans step up and gain leverage in their own capabilities? This Alt-AI course shows ways to become human strong. In the ancient Biblical battle between the giant Goliath and the shepherd David, David uses rocks and his slingshot to win. This course shows how a human might pull off a similar underdog victory against giant AI.
The course includes three classes, each an hour long: an introduction, two human skills, and two other human skills worth developing.
